Classwork

The Astronomy projects were collected in class today.  As I collected the projects, students worked on answering two MCAS prompts that are related to our present unit of study.

Complete the MCAS prompts

Study for tomorrow’s unit test on Astronomy

To gain a further understanding as to how optical telescopes function, students built simple refracting telescopes for the “Modeling a Telescope” lab today in class.

To gain a further understanding as to how optical telescopes function, we examined how light behaves in class today.  Notes, handouts, and physical representations of different types of mirrors and lenses were used to reinforce the lesson.

Complete the worksheet “Reflection in a Spoon” (1 page)

Today in class we discussed how telescopes function and compared the two types of optical telescopes; reflecting and refracting.

In today’s class we began talking about the evolution of stars.  Notes were given and a short video clip was shown.      

Homework

1)Read pages 78 to 85 in the textbook.

2)Answer questions 1 -3.

3) Complete the “Evolution of Stars” worksheet (2 sides).

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday there will be no afternoon class or help sessions this Wednesday.  All students are encouraged to attend my help sessions next Wednesday.

Classwork

In today’s class we began finished talking about the main characteristics of stars and then used the H-R diagram to show how a star’s brightness in related to its surface temperature.      

Homework

Complete the “H-R Diagram” worksheet (2 sides).

 

Help Sessions

There will be no help session this Wednesday due to the early dismissal for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Students needing help or who need to complete missing assignments should plan to attend my help session net Wednesday.
