Classwork and Homework for 2/29/12

In all of today’s classes we continued to explore our new unit ”The Changing Face of the Planet”. 

 In C and F blocks students Continued working on a lab which looks at the evidence used to formulate the Theory of Continental Drift.

Students in A and E blocks we tried to determine how fast, and in which direction, one of Earth’s lithospheric plates move.

Students in G Block continued to explore Sea Floor Spreading by making a model to demonstrate the process.

Homework

 A & E Blocks: Finish the “Determining How Fast Some Crustal Plates Move” lab

C and F Blocks: Finish the “Evidence for Continental Drift” lab

G Block: Finish the Going Their Separate Ways” lab

Students in a, E, & G blocks were expected to finish their 3-D mapping project at home and turn them on Feb. 27th.  Please remember that all late projects will loss 10 points for every day that they are late.

In all of today’s classes we continued to explore our new unit ”The Changing Face of the Planet”. 

 In C and F blocks students began a lab which looks at the evidence used to formulate the Theory of Continental Drift.

 Students in A, E, and G blocks we looked at the remaining pieces of evidence that was used to come up with the Theory of Plate Tectonics: Sea Floor Spreading and Paleomagnitism.

Homework

 A, E, & G Blocks: Read pages 376 to 379, answer questions 1 to 3, complete the following 2 worksheets: Drilling the Ocean Floor and Shifting Poles

C and F Blocks: No homework was assigned

In all of today’s classes we continued to explore our new unit ”The Changing Face of the Planet”. 

 In C and F blocks students began looking at he evidence that was used to formulate the Theory of Plate Tectonics. Today we discussed the previous theory of Continental Drift which we will be exploring in greater depth tomorrow as we begin a lab looking at the evidence that lead to that theory.

 Students in A, E, and G blocks continued working on a lab plotting the locations for  volcanic and earthquake activity.  As they worked on the lab, I collected their 3-D projects.

Homework

 A, E, & G Blocks: Complete “Locating Patterns of Earthquake and Volcano Activity” lab

C and F Blocks: Read pages 371 to 375 and answer question 1 to 3

Classwork and Homework for 2/17/12

In all of today’s classes we continued to explore our new unit ”The Changing Face of the Planet”.  In C and F blocks students took the Earth’s Interior quiz. Once finished they were given the opportunity to work on their 3-D island maps, complete make up work,  or get a jump on the work they’ll be assigned when we return from vacation.

  Students in A, E, and G blocks continued looking at the evidence that led to the theory of Plate Tectonics.  Today we discussed how the location and occurence of volcanoes and earthquakes can be linked to the movement of the earth’s lithospheric plates.  After taking some brief notes, students began working on a lab plotting the locations for  volcanic and earthquake activity.

C and F Blocks: No homework assigned

Classwork and Homework for 2/16/12

In all of today’s classes we continued to explore our new unit ”The Changing Face of the Planet”.  In C and F blocks we reviewed for tomorrow’s quiz by going over the main characteristics of each layer of the Earth’s interior na d then by having the students complete part of the Chapter 9 review.  Any part of the review not done in class needs to be completed for homework.  Students in A, E, and G blocks continued looking at the evidence that led to the theory of Continental Drift by trying to use some of that evidence on a lab where they will try to recreated the way the Earth looked at the time of Pangaea, , “Evidence for Continental Drift”.

Homework

 A, E, & G Blocks: Complete the “Evidence for Continental Drift” lab

C and F Blocks: Complete the Chapter 9 Review (pages 320 – 321), MC 1-8, TF 1-7, Concept Mastery 1, 2, 3, & 6 (counts as a quiz) and study for tomorrow’s quiz on the Earth’s interior

Classwork and Homework for 2/15/12

In all of today’s classes we continued to explore our new unit ”The Changing Face of the Planet”.  In C and F blocks we tried to examine the properties and characteristics of each layer of the Earth’s interior by comparing it to a peanut m & m in our lab “Modeling the Earth’s Interior”.   Students in A, E, and G blocks looking at the evidence that led to the theory of Continental Drift and tried to use some of that evidence as they began working on a lab where they will try to recreated the way the Earth looked at the time of Pangaea, , “Evidence for Continental Drift”.

Homework

In all of today’s classes we continued to explore our new unit ”The Changing Face of the Planet”.  In C and F blocks we continued to examine the properties and characteristics of each layer of the Earth’s interior.   Students in A, E, and G blocks took a quiz on the Earth’s interior and then began a discussion of plate tectonics by looking at the evidence that led to the theory.

C and F Blocks: Read pages 313 to 316, answer questions 1 t0 3 on page 316, and complete the “Earth’s Interior” wkst

Classwork and Homework for 2/13/12

In C and F blocks we have started our new unit “The Changing Face of the Planet”.  In this unit we will first look at the Earth’s interior, examining the properties and characteristics of each layer.   Students in A, E, and G blocks will prepare for tomorrow’s quiz by reviewing the concepts discussed last week concerning the Earth’s interior and then completing the chapter 9 review in the textbook. 

Homework

 A, E, & G Blocks: Finish the Chapter 9 review (pp. 320 and 321) and study for tomorrows quiz on the Earth’s interior. MC 1-8, T/F 1-7, Concept Mastery 1-6, Critical Thinking 1,2,3,& 5 (A and E only for CT)

C and F Blocks: Read pages 307 to 313, answer questions 1 t0 4 on page 311 and 1 to 5 on page 313

Classwork and Homework for 2/10/12

In today’s classes students in C and F blocks worked on their mapping projects.  Students in C and F Blocks continued to work on their 3-D model of their islands.   

 In A, E, & G students worked through the procedural portion of a lab where they tried to determine the density of the Earth by calculating the density of its component parts.  Any of the follow-up questions not completed in class were assigned to be completed for homework.

Homework

 A, E, & G Blocks: Complete the questions for today’s lab “Deteriming the Density of the Earth”.

In today’s classes students in C and F blocks worked on their mapping projects.  Students in C and F Blocks continued to work on their 3-D model of their islands.
